Oct 3 : So far, dance has been looked as a form of expression or recreation, but soon the art form could be used for some extremely different purposes - to run lights and flush toilets.

Club developers in the Netherlands are working on a sustainable dance club that will use the heat, movement and sweat of the dance floor to generate energy and conserve water.

“We go one important step further by recognising the clubber as a source of energy,” News in Science quoted Rotterdam-based concept developers, the Enviu network and architecture firm Doll - Atelier voor Bouwkunst, as saying.

The developers, who are working with Delft University of Technology to develop the new technologies, say that the upcoming club aims to save external energy use with a special dance floor that captures the energy of dancers and uses it to power lights.

They further reveal that the new technology could also help save water by capturing the sweat of dancers to flush toilets.

The technology could also provide the perfect dancing effects as the colour of the club walls could change without any energy use, as a reaction to the heat of dancing bodies.

“We invite people from all over the world to contribute their ideas and experiences and try out ideas and share their experiences with other ‘toolbox users’ to create a worldwide sustainable dance club community,” they said.

Other modules include a bottle wall where clubbers can put their empty bottles and create a work of art. So far testing has attracted the interest of club owners and festival organizers around the world.

“We aim to have the first club open in Rotterdam in 2008 (that is if everything goes according to plan). But if clubs around the world have interest to be the first we encourage them to contact us,” the developers said. (ANI)
