Researchers unveil protein that spreads cancer
Tokyo, Apr 25 : Shimadzu and Central Research laboratory discovered 9 types of protein which showed a marked variation in the numerical value on metastatic cancer. The research used central research laboratory’s NOG mouse, an ultra immuno-deficient mouse in implanting human-derived pancreas and colon cancer cells.
The cells were analyzed using Shimadzu’s NBS reagent, two types of stable isotope reagent which selectively indicates tryptophan - a type of amino acid in the protein - and proteome analyzed using NBS biomarker search system. As a result they were able to identify 160 types of protein which showed quantitative fluctuation in the pancreas cancer cells and 150 types in the colon cancer cells.
In a comparative analysis of the two, they detected 9 types of proteins that notably fluctuated in both cancer cells.
