Bird flu toll in Indonesia rises to 73
Jakarta, April 6 - The health ministry of Indonesia confirmed Friday that a teenage girl died of bird flu, bringing the death roll in the country to 73.
A Health Ministry official from anti bird flu centre said that the girl’s lab tests showed she was positive, contracted by the pathogenic H5N1 virus, infected from pet birds.
According to the confirmation of Sulianti Saroso Hospital, which treated the girl, she died late Thursday after multiple-organs failure.
The number of bird flu cases in Indonesia, which was the hardest hit by the virus, has increased recently after months of absence of new cases.
The country recently has agreed to cooperate by sharing its bird flu virus samples with the World Health Organization for scientific purpose. (Xinhua)
