World Bank releases Indian health funds
The World Bank will give India $662 million in loans for reproductive health that were held up for a year by transparency concerns.
The funds are also earmarked for tuberculosis control and health systems development, Financial Express reported.
In order to ease the bank’s concerns, the Indian government had to draft a good-governance action plan and commit to fully transparent procurement processes.
The delay of the funds, which are critical to the country’s progress toward United Nations Millennium Development Goals, was hurting access to medical care for the poor, a government spokesman said.
